Square-Enix are expecting Final Fantasy XIII to sell 1 million copies in first week

The hype surrounding Final Fantasy XIII is huge in Japan. Square Enix has released the data for their first shipment of the game. Square-Enix has already shipped 1 million copies to stores around Japan and are planning on shipping another 150k on the 17th followed by 150k by the end of next week. Which brings the total shipment for the first week to 1.3 million.
Though this isn't as big as FF XII numbers, which shipped over 2 million copies before release. The reason for this is the bigger install base the PS2 had at that time.
Update: It seems that the initial shipment has reached 1.8 million copies for FFXIII includes regular copies of the game and the Limited Edition "Lightning Pink" PS3 console bundles which include a special FFXIII branded PS3 as well as a copy of the game in a limited-run box.
